BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday expressed hope that this year's Pohela Boishakh celebrations will help remove divisions among people.

"After the fall of the fascist regime from state power, this year's Pohela Boishakh will be celebrated in a free atmosphere. Therefore, I believe the festival will be filled with mutual greetings, removing divisions among the people," the BNP leader said in a message on the eve of the Bangla New Year.

Referring to the Bangla New Year as the embodiment of all Bangladeshis, he said that from the dawn of Boishakh, the festival fills people's hearts with peace and joy.

Fakhrul extended his heartfelt greetings and congratulations to the people.

He described the Bangla New Year as a bright and joyful festival of national life.

"There will be no animosity or conflict during the festival, and everyone's heart will be filled with vitality and abundance," he said, adding that the festival is also a symbol of solidarity.

Fakhrul emphasized that the new year symbolizes leaving behind past failures and struggles to build a beautiful, prosperous future with renewed enthusiasm.

"We must overcome the impact of the various incidents and challenges of the past year and restore peace, comfort, health, and coexistence. The new year inspires the urge for an ideal life, education, and advanced culture," said the BNP leader.

"In history, the identity of Bangladeshis is rooted in their distinctive religion. In the realms of religion, folklore, politics, literature, and culture, this distinctiveness is a key part of the Bangladeshi psyche. At the heart of every festival is the union of all people, regardless of wealth or poverty, indirectly connecting various communities and religious groups of the nation in multiple ways," he said.

He wished happiness and peace for all the people of the country.
