BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has hailed the visit of Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus to China as a major success for the interim government.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday at his residence in Kalibari, Thakurgaon, while exchanging Eid greetings with party activists, Fakhrul said previous Awami League-led governments had built unilateral relations with China.
However, with the change in government, China had adjusted its stance and was now engaging with all political parties in Bangladesh, he added.
"China is a prosperous nation and ranks third in economic strength. Their investments in Bangladesh are significant, and they have committed to further investments in production and development. This is undoubtedly encouraging for us," he added.
Fakhrul mentioned that although he had intended to celebrate Eid in Thakurgaon, he could not do so. Instead, he offered Eid prayers in Dhaka and later paid respects at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman. He also met with the chief adviser to extend Eid greetings.
On political matters, he said the government had assumed power with public support and through a mass movement.
He noted the formation of reform commissions to reshape the state system, saying the BNP had thoroughly reviewed the proposals and provided its feedback.
Fakhrul also hoped that, based on the chief adviser’s statements, elections would be held later this year.
