BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee has said that Eid is a day of happiness and celebration, but for the past 16-17 years, it had been impossible to truly celebrate with joy.
He made these remarks while speaking to journalists on Monday after offering Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at Sonamia Eidgah Jame Mosque in Lakshmipur.
Anee said: "The fascist government did not allow us to celebrate Eid with joy. However, today, with the sincerity and cooperation of the people, we are all able to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr in a peaceful manner."
He further said: "Today, we are filled with happiness and joy. Our aim should be to maintain this spirit in the days ahead. This requires strong unity.”
He added: “Only through a solid bond of unity can preserve this joy among us all. I believe we are living in harmony, and we will continue to do so. Let this be our pledge on this auspicious day."
Several BNP leaders were present at the occasion, including Main Uddin Chowdhury Riaz, convenor of BNP’s Sadar (East) Upazila unit; Foyez Ahmed, convenor of Lakshmipur Municipal Jubo Dal; Badrul Islam Shyamol, vice president of the district Krishak Dal; Sohel Adnan, joint convenor of the Sadar Upazila Jubo Dal; and Shahbaz Chowdhury Zidan, vice president of the district Chhatra Dal.
