Update : 12 Sep 2013, 07:26 PM

The deputy high commissioner of Australian embassy in Dhaka, Tim Bolotnikoff, Thursday held a meeting with the leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh reportedly to be familiar with about Qawmi madrasas.

“He came here basically to know about the educational system in Qawmi madrasas. There was a little discussion on Hefazat-e-Islam too,” Wabaidur Rahman Khan Nadwi, international affairs adviser of the Hathazari-based Islamist group, told reporters after the meeting.

Hefazat’s Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer Mohibullah Babunagari, Nayeb-e-Ameer Mufti Izharul Hoque Chowdhury, Organising Secretary Azizul Hoque Islamabadi and Mufti Harun Izhar were present at the meeting held at Jamiatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasa (known as Lalkhan Bazar Madrasa) in the city.

He also said the envoy wanted to know as to why the Qawmi madrasas had not been receiving any foreign assistance while the Alia madrasas had no reservation in this regard.

“Bolotnikoff wanted to know whether we will receive IT equipment if they offer us to modernise the educational system,” he said adding that they had responded positively.

Replying to a question, Nadwi said the issue of law enforcers’ action on Hefazat’s Motijheel rally on May 5 and 6 had not been discussed in the meeting while the discussion on Hefazat’s politics was nothing important.
