BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said there has been a malicious attempt to discredit the military.
He made the remark on Monday evening at a prayer and iftar gathering organized by the BNP Media Cell at the Ladies Club in the capital, reports Bangla Tribune.
Fakhrul said there has been a renewed effort to undermine the military, which has always stood by the nation during critical moments, in an attempt to jeopardize the sovereignty and independence of Bangladesh.
He claimed the country’s military, which has played a vital role in safeguarding the nation, is now being targeted in an effort to provoke controversy.
The BNP secretary general mentioned that a well-coordinated conspiracy is underway, aimed at destabilizing Bangladesh once again and plunging it into peril.
He claimed that institutions essential to safeguarding the nation’s independence and sovereignty are being discredited, with the military particularly being targeted.
According to him, there can be no noble intention behind this; the sole objective is to repeat the actions of the fascist regime in the past, which undermined the country’s independence and sovereignty.
He warned that these efforts aim to render the nation vulnerable again by discrediting the military.
The acting chairman of the BNP, Tarique Rahman, joined the iftar gathering virtually as the chief guest.
