Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer (Northern Region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has urged voters not to cast their votes based on a party’s name or symbol in the future.

"In the Bangladesh of tomorrow, do not vote based on a party's name or symbol. Vote for those whose actions align with their words. Only by working selflessly can the country progress," Sarjis said at a roadside gathering in Debiganj, Panchagarh, on Monday afternoon, reports Bangla Tribune.

Speaking about past governments, Sarjis said, "In 53-54 years, we have seen many types of governments in Bangladesh. But in the last 16 years, the tyrant Sheikh Hasina took the lives of 1,500 to 2,000 people and was forced to flee the country due to a student and public uprising."

He further said: "For years, leaders in Bangladesh have used ordinary people for their benefit. The NCP will always resist the injustices, oppression, extortion, and syndicates that exist in the system of this country."

Addressing the general public, he said: "Do not take money before electing your representatives. If you do, they will not return to you for the next five years."

Local leaders, activists, and supporters of the party were present at the event.

Before the meeting, Sarjis Alam travelled from Saidpur airport to Debiganj in a convoy of over 100 microbuses. Hundreds of party workers greeted him with flowers upon his arrival.

He also held separate roadside gatherings in Debiganj, Boda, and Panchagarh Sadar upazilas of Panchagarh district. Later, he was scheduled to attend an iftar gathering at his home in Atwari upazila.
