Aminul Haque, BNP sports affairs secretary and convener of the Dhaka north unit of the party, has said no visible reforms have taken place in the interim government even after over six months.

He made the remark while addressing a BNP activist meeting and a workshop on the party’s 31-point state reform plan at a playground in front of Dakshinkhan police station in the capital on Sunday, reports Bangla Tribune.

Aminul said: “You talk about reforms in Bangladesh’s state institutions, yet no reforms have been made visible to the nation so far. This is because the accomplices of the autocrat Sheikh Hasina are still firmly in place within the country’s institutions."

He added: "How can you talk about reforms while keeping these autocrats in power? First, eliminate them, remove them. Then, carry out reforms step by step. If this happens, Bangladesh will automatically be free of autocracy.”

Addressing the interim government, he further said: “So far, you have been trying to delay the election in the name of reforms. We do not know or understand what is on your mind!"

"But if you continue to make futile attempts to delay the election out of greed for power, the people of Bangladesh will not take long to understand your intentions. The people of Bangladesh will never accept this,” he added.

Aminul said the people of Bangladesh want a free and fair election within this year.

He urged the authorities, saying: “Hold an election soon, keeping in mind the expectations of the people of Bangladesh. The elected government will then carry out full-scale reforms by repairing the country’s infrastructure and state institutions.”

He also expressed the BNP's commitment to building a prosperous and golden Bangladesh based on the 31-point reform outline proposed by BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman.
