In response to threats of a siege on the central office of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) at the Mukti Bhaban in Purana Paltan, Dhaka, security measures have been strengthened around the area.
From Saturday, police and military personnel were seen stationed at the site. The police confirmed that the security was enhanced based on intelligence reports.
Meanwhile, as per the previously announced program, CPB President Comrade Shah Alam and General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince raised a black flag in front of the office at 10:40am.
They also announced a peaceful mourning procession at 4pm, which will be attended by leaders and activists from several left-wing organizations.
It is reported that there have been threats of an attack and takeover of the CPB office. Regarding this, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Paltan Police Station Kazi Nasirul Amin, told the media: "Security has been tightened at the office based on intelligence reports."
Earlier in the morning, CPB leaders and activists began gathering in front of their office with party flags. They expressed concerns about potential attacks and several had stayed overnight to prevent any unwanted situations from arising.
