BNP leader issued show-cause notice over JnU student attack

Shahidul Islam Shahid was directed to explain allegations after allegedly leading a Monday night attack injuring seven Jagannath University students

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Dhaka Metropolitan South has issued a show-cause notice to its leader, Shahidul Islam Shahid, regarding his alleged involvement in the attack on students of Jagannath University.

The notice was issued through an official statement signed by BNP Dhaka Metropolitan South’s Joint Convener (in charge of the office) Saidur Rahman Mintu on Tuesday.

According to the notice, Shahidul Islam Shahid has been directed to submit a written explanation within 48 hours of receiving the letter regarding the allegations raised against him concerning the unfortunate incident involving Jagannath University students in Dholaikhal on the night of Monday.

The attack reportedly took place late Monday night following an altercation over stepping onto an under-construction concrete surface on the road.

Allegedly led by local BNP leader Shahidul Islam Shahid, the assault left at least seven students injured.

The wounded students are currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, National Medical College Hospital and Mitford Hospital.

Shahidul Islam Shahid serves as the general secretary of BNP’s Ward No 38 (Wari Police Station) under Dhaka Metropolitan South.
