'I want to state clearly, those trying to gain benefits by pushing BNP into a different camp—the outcome will not be good'

Update : 24 Jan 2025, 07:05 PM

Accusing that BNP is being associated with 1/11 to push the party into a different camp, BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas mentioned that the consequences of such conspiracies will not be favorable.

BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas made these remarks during a prayer session on Friday.

This prayer session was organized by BNP at the central office in Naya Paltan to mark the 10th death anniversary of Arafat Rahman Koko.

Earlier in the day, BNP’s senior joint secretary general and other leaders and activists paid their respects to Koko by placing wreaths on his grave at the Banani Cemetery.

In the evening, a Milad Mahfil was held at the Chairperson’s Office in Gulshan. Arafat Rahman Koko, the youngest son of Ziaur Rahman, died of a heart attack in Malaysia on January 24, 2015.

Mirza Abbas said: "I want to state clearly, those trying to gain benefits by pushing BNP into a different camp—the outcome will not be good."

He added: "If you continue such talks and create conflicts and divisions after August 5, you will never witness the face of democracy. I urge you to avoid creating division and confusion and try to keep the country united."

Mirza Abbas said: "There is a party—I won’t name them. They act like they're obsessed with seizing power, as if they know nothing. Without understanding, they randomly make remarks about BNP. Anyway, I won’t criticize anyone."

He continued: "Now, with multiple opinions, multiple paths, multiple TV channels, and newspapers, many have started criticizing our party BNP. Some of our leaders may have made one or two remarks on their own responsibility.”

“I haven’t heard clearly as I was abroad. But recently, I have seen many people making various statements. What are they saying? Some are saying BNP is plotting to bring 1/11," he added.

“To them, I want to say that no one suffered the devastating consequences of 1/11 in 2007 more than BNP. From grassroots members to our leader Begum Khaleda Zia, no one escaped the conspiracy of 1//11. They even tried to assassinate her cruelly,” he further added.

Mirza Abbas also said: "Today, various political parties, like children speaking gibberish after suddenly learning to talk, are making incoherent remarks. Many parties and individuals are speaking in ways that make it seem like BNP has become an ally of Awami League. There is a deliberate effort to push BNP toward the Awami camp."

“I want to state clearly—those who want to push BNP toward Awami League, which is a companion of India, should first look in the mirror and examine their own conscience. Stop trying to deceive the people of this country further,” he added.

He said: “BNP has fought on the streets for 17 years. Those of us who are here, including our Rizvi (Rizvi Ahmed), have endured it. Rizvi is crippled. He lost his life prematurely.”

He added: “If I talk about my own family, I was jailed for 11 years, my wife for 16 years, and my younger brother Mirza Khokon for 8 years. He returned to Bangladesh after 17 years abroad. This oppression wasn’t limited to my family; every BNP leader and activist has faced this cruelty."

The BNP leader also said: “Today, you want to push us into another camp. What is your purpose? You want to brand us with Awami League’s seal. You want to drive us away. Don’t even think about it.”

He added: “The nation’s ever-vigilant guardian was President Ziaur Rahman, and for this nation’s sovereignty, our leader Begum Khaleda Zia and my brothers in this party have fought for independence."

Advising to use intelligence and wisdom for the nation’s development, Mirza Abbas said: “Some people say BNP only talks about elections. There are BNP bloggers abroad trying to govern the country from overseas. Whatever they say, they think it must happen here."

“Brothers, I personally know every one of you, and you know us too. You are highly educated and wise. But please don’t use your intellect and wisdom to create division in the nation. Please try to bring peace to the country.,” he further added.

He continued: “You know how to speak, you have intelligence. Use your intellect and wisdom to build the nation. Don’t blame BNP."

“Because for this country’s independence, the martyred President Ziaur Rahman gave his life. His family suffered enormous losses, and the activists of BNP are being destroyed today. Thus, a patriotic party like BNP has never existed in Bangladesh. I don’t know if one will ever be established again,” he further added.

Mirza Abbas said: “Some say a new party is forming, and BNP is jealous. Those who say this are the enemies of the nation. Whether a new party will form depends on those who want to create it."

“After the party is declared, you will see BNP’s role. If a new party forms, we welcome it. Those who form the party will govern the country democratically, and we will step aside if needed. But don’t spread misleading information to confuse the nation,” the BNP leader added.
