BNP Standing Committee Member Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed on Wednesday said that investigations will be initiated into the alleged corruption of Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and their family members, with measures to ensure they are brought under the law.
He accused the Awami League of keeping the country hostage through rampant corruption, unchecked commodity prices, extrajudicial killings, and enforced disappearances.
Speaking at a public meeting on the remote islands of Char Mojammel and Char Zahiruddin in Tazumuddin upazila, Bhola, Major Hafiz criticized the Awami League for establishing a "reign of terror" across the nation.
He said: "The Awami League established a reign of terror across the country using their forces. Ordinary people had no way to express their grievances. They have destroyed every institution in the country. While keeping the people in suffering, the Awami League laundered billions of takas abroad.
“Even in places like Tazumuddin, they exploited river erosion victims living on chars (river islands) for 15 years without improving their circumstances. The Awami League failed to bring any change to the lives of these displaced char dwellers. They have made life difficult for people with low incomes," he said.
He added: "The Awami League kept the people hostage through unchecked commodity prices, rampant corruption, extrajudicial killings, and disappearances. Investigations will be conducted into the corruption of Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and their family members, and measures will be taken to bring them under the law."
