BNP Chairperson's Adviser, Zainul Abdin Farroque, has stated that attempts are being made once again to create a political crisis in Bangladesh, just as in the past.
"It has been a long time—four to five months have passed—but what hope has the people seen? Due to past failures, 1,60,000 cases have been filed against BNP leaders and activists. Cases have been filed against 4 million BNP leaders and activists," he said.
"The one who filed these cases, Sheikh Hasina, is in hiding. Sheikh Hasina's supporters are still setting fire to the Secretariat. Ramadan is approaching, but once again, there is a conspiracy to create a syndicate for onions, potatoes and rice," he further added.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a winter clothes distribution program organized by the Ziaur Rahman Social Welfare Forum in front of the National Press Club on Sunday, on behalf of BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, for the poor, destitute and cold-stricken people.
Addressing Dr. Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, Farroque said: "If you want to form a government that will operate in continuity with democracy, will use Parliament independently and will not interfere in the judiciary, then arrange for elections quickly."
He emphasized: "Provide a roadmap, announce a specific election date. Make sure no one has to take to the streets to protest again. You must ensure this because you are an esteemed and trustworthy person for everyone. We are proud of you."
He further said: "We want to remind the interim government through the history of the past: Please make arrangements to keep the people in peace. The prices of essential goods have started to rise, and the public is not at peace. Because, you (Dr. Yunus) were appointed to ensure that, through an election and people's voting rights, a representative government would be chosen that would free the 180 million people of Bangladesh from past conspiracies and establish the country as a democratic nation in the world."
He added: "The previous government caused you a lot of trouble. They tried many ways to tarnish your reputation. However, in recent months, people have started to speak again, and some of your associates are saying things that could tarnish your reputation. I believe everyone should speak cautiously and avoid saying things that could cause division among you."
