The Freedom Fighters' gathering scheduled for Saturday has been postponed as BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has fallen ill.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir disclosed this information at a press conference held on Thursday, at the party chairperson's office in Gulshan.
Mirza Fakhrul said: "Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has been unwell since the night before last. Following her doctors' advice, her participation in the gathering has been cancelled."
Khaleda Zia was initially scheduled to be the chief guest at the Freedom Fighters’ gathering in Dhaka on Saturday.
Her last public speech took place on November 12, 2017 at a party rally in Dhaka’s Suhrawardy Udyan. She was arrested on February 8, 2018.
The Freedom Fighters’ gathering in Dhaka was anticipated to mark Khaleda Zia’s first public appearance or participation in a political program in seven years. However, due to her illness, the event has now been postponed.
