The BNP's freedom fighter wing Jatiotabadi Muktijoddha Dal has postponed its rally scheduled for Saturday.
Its president, Ishtiaq Aziz Ulfat, announced the decision on Thursday afternoon, said Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP media cell.
Shairul said the assembly has been postponed for now and a new date will be announced later.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia had been slated to attend the event. It would have been her first political program appearance in around six years.
Earlier in the day, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that following the advice of the medical board, Khaleda Zia will not be able to attend the rally at this time due to health reasons.
