BNP Organizing Secretary Shama Obaed on Friday said Bangladesh is now facing new challenges after the fall of fascism through the student-led mass uprising on August 5.
On one hand, there is no sense of fear among the people but on the other hand there is also unrest due to price hikes of commodities and economic instability, she said.
“If the country cannot be taken on the right path, the student-people movement and the sacrifices of the BNP leaders and activists will go in vain,” said Shama Obaed while addressing a meeting at the Faridpur Press Club auditorium.
The meeting was organized as part of preparations for launching a public engagement campaign in the Faridpur region to ensure the success of the BNP’s 31-point state reform programme.
The BNP leader said they can now breathe, raise voices and sleep in peace at night as their activists won’t be taken away and forcibly disappeared.
“At the same time, there is also unrest. Because the commodity prices have not come down yet in Bangladesh. The economic situation has not become stable yet,” she said.
Shama Obaed said Bangladesh Nationalist Party is a very responsible party and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman formulated the 31-point state reform programme after discussing with representatives of political parties and civil society.
“Our goal is to establish democratic process and voting rights, correct the electoral system, and amend the country’s democratic institutions destroyed by Sheikh Hasina and her family,” she said.
