Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam has said he is sensing that the ruling party will return to power and is preparing for the next polls accordingly.
"I don't have any information, but as a politician I can smell that Awami League will return to power through the next general election," he told an iftar party, reports UNB.
Ashraf came up with the views at a time when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy are claiming to have information about Awami Leagues' victory in the next election.
Awami League's publicity and publication sub-committee arranged the iftar party in the city's Ladies' Club.
Ashraf said they have started preparing for the national election and they will be out on the field with spirited programmes after the Eid-ul-Fitr.
Earlier on July 23, Prime Minister's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy claimed he has information that Awami League will return to power through the next polls.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina defended her son's comment saying, "Joy said one thing: he said on the basis of a survey and a poll."
While distributing cheques of Journalists' Assistance Allowance Fund to 158 journalists at her office, the PM also said the findings showed that the Awami Leaguel was leading in the 'opinion poll', and people still have their faith and confidence in the party. "As per the survey, Awami League will secure good results in the next (general) election and will be in power next."
Apparently rejecting the opposition's demand for arranging the next election under a non-party government, Ashraf said military and undemocratic administration cannot be an alternative to a democratic government.
