Nasim: No objection from Awami League to apologize to nation for mistakes

'There is no dogmatism in us about not asking for forgiveness'

Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim has said that there is no objection from Awami League if it is required to apologize to nation for mistake for its role in the political crisis.

Nasim, who has been in hiding, spoke to a private television channel via phone.

The conversation was also shared on the official verified Facebook page of the Awami League.

In the aftermath of the student and public uprising that led to the fall of the Awami League government, which had been in power for over 15 consecutive years, Sheikh Hasina fled to India.

Since then, leaders and ministers from the party have been in hiding. Additionally, hundreds of charges related to genocide have been filed against Sheikh Hasina and top leaders of the Awami League, and the trial process has already begun.

In this context, many are suggesting that the Awami League should apologize to the nation for its role in the political crisis.

Bahauddin Nasim said: "If we have made a mistake or committed an injustice, we have no objection to apologizing to the nation. There is no dogmatism in us about not asking for forgiveness. Such an attitude does not belong to the Awami League."

He continued: "What good would it do for the Awami League to repent while in hiding or sitting in jail? How can we do that? If we have made mistakes, we will openly acknowledge them and show the nation how we plan to correct those mistakes."

Nasim also mentioned that the Awami League will soon launch programs to alleviate the suffering of ordinary people, especially the working class.

"To meet the demands and expectations of the people and the youth for democracy and for the next generation, we will run the Awami League in line with the needs of the time and the realities of the situation," he added.
