JaPa protested attacks on its Dhaka office with rallies

Update : 02 Nov 2024, 04:58 PM

In response to the attack, vandalism, and arson at the Jatiya Party’s headquarters in Dhaka on Thursday, the party has organized a protest rally and demonstration in Rangpur.

Hundreds of Jatiya Party leaders and activists gathered in Saturday morning at the party's Central Road office in Rangpur, fueled by outrage over the Gono Odhikar Parishad’s call for demonstrations outside Jatiya Party offices across the country.

Although Gono Odhikar Parishad had announced rallies near Jatiya Party offices nationwide, no members from the organization appeared in Rangpur.

At 1pm, Jatiya Party Co-Chairman and former Rangpur City mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa led a protest march through several city streets, concluding at Payera Chattar (Pigeon Square) with a large rally.

Key speakers at the event included District Jatiya Party Secretary Abdur Razzak, Jubo Sanghoti President Nazimuzzaman Nazim, and Metropolitan Jatiya Party President Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa.

In his speech, Mostafa declared, “This is not Dhaka; this is Rangpur. No hired thugs will last a minute here.”

He further said: “We do not recognize Nur’s Gono Odhikar Parishad. Those behind him, hiring thugs to attack and vandalize our central office in Dhaka, are striking at the heart of democracy.”

He condemned the violence, expressing confidence that the people of the country would ultimately respond to such acts.

Other party leaders pledged that the Jatiya Party in Rangpur would maintain a continuous presence at their office, affirming their readiness to confront any challenge.
