PM violates electoral code of conduct, abuses her power using government funds

Update : 01 Sep 2013, 08:10 AM

On Sunday, the main opposition BNP alleged that the Prime Minister was using government funds in her electoral campaign and violating electoral codes of conduct.

“Prime Minister is still in the office. She is visiting different places using government funds and addressing different meetings and rallies seeking votes, which is a clear violation of the electoral code of conduct,” Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP acting secretary general, alleged.

Fakhrul said: “This also proved that free and fair election is not possible under the incumbent government because they started violating the electoral code of conduct before the election.”

Fakhrul made the remarks to journalists after placing wreaths at the party founder Ziaur Rahman’s grave. BNP Chairperson and leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia went to the grave along with some thousands leaders and activists and placed wreaths there, marking 35th founding anniversary of the party. A du’a was offered there and Khaleda Zia inaugurated a voluntary blood donation programme on the grave premises.

The spokesperson of the party alleged that the government was hatching a conspiracy to stay in power forever and held a meeting regarding this at the Law minister’s residence, saying, “People will resist such conspiracy.”
