BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday said if people remain united, they will be able to fulfill the hopes and expectations of the people of Bangladesh.
He made these remarks during a speech virtually as the chief guest at a public meeting in Sirajganj on Saturday.
The BNP acting chairman said: “We have no alternative but to remain united. We have presented some arguments, but much work remains to be done. Alongside political liberation, we must also find a way for economic liberation for the people. If we can advance the nation together, we will achieve freedom in all aspects.”
Remembering those killed in the movement, the acting chairman of BNP said that he made various efforts to connect with the rural people of Bangladesh.
"I travelled to different parts of the country, primarily to reach out to those at the grassroots level. To make the country self-reliant, we must work together.”
"We have bid farewell to dictatorship, and only a few goals have been achieved. There is still a long way to go. If we can traverse this path, the right to vote for the people will also be ensured.”
Addressing the locals, he said: "If we look at this area, we see a region full of potential. The name Sirajganj immediately brings to mind the weaving industry. Many people are involved in this profession. Even before, the BNP chairperson, former prime minister, had done a lot including waiving agricultural loans.
“I hope that if BNP forms the government in the future, God willing, it will stand by this weaving industry. Bangladeshis are scattered all over the world. We will try to spread this industry worldwide through them.”
Tarique Rahman said to the party workers: “As long as we have not brought home all the harvests from economic liberation to all others, we must continue this movement. We were united today to pay respect to those who made sacrifices. Every person in Bangladesh is looking towards you, so every party worker must be prepared accordingly.”
Earlier in the memorial meeting, BNP senior leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said as a special guest, “BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman had decided to boycott the election on January 7. It was a remarkable decision. Many criticized the decision not to participate in the January 7 election. But later everyone understood that Tarique Rahman’s decision was correct.”
