  • 'Her health remains concern'
Update : 21 Sep 2024, 04:05 PM

Although BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia returned home from Evercare Hospital on Wednesday, her health remains a concern, according to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

He shared this update while speaking with journalists at Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office on Saturday.

"Begum Khaleda Zia is unwell, her body temperature was high on Friday," Fakhrul said.

When questioned about the possibility of her traveling abroad for advanced medical treatment, he said that her doctors currently do not consider her fit for flying, which is delaying her overseas medical care.

Khaleda Zia had been hospitalized at Evercare Hospital for six days and returned to her Gulshan residence on September 18. Although discharged by her medical board on Wednesday evening, she continues to receive treatment at home under close medical supervision.

A specialized medical board led by Professor Shahabuddin Talukdar has been overseeing her care for an extended period. On June 23, doctors successfully installed a pacemaker in her chest.

Khaleda Zia has been facing various health challenges, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, and issues related to her kidneys, lungs, heart, and eyes. Her doctors have been recommending that she be sent abroad for treatment since her liver cirrhosis diagnosis in November 2021.

Last October 26, three US specialists performed the transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) procedure to address fluid accumulation in her stomach and chest and to manage liver bleeding.
