Rival factions of Magura BNP unite on the same platform

Update : 31 Aug 2013, 04:55 PM

After about five years of conflict, the two factions of Magura BNP finally took to the same platform Saturday to observe a party programme.

The district BNP activists and leaders have been divided into two groups for the last five years. One group is led by former BNP minister Nitay Roy Choudhury and Magura district unit BNP president Kabir Murad while the other one is led by former MP Kazi Shalimul Hoque Kamal and Magura municipality Mayor Ikbal Akhter Kafur.

District BNP arranged a workers’ meeting at Magura Ashaduzzaman auditorium Saturday. Former BNP minister Amanullah Aman was the chief guest in the event, with Kabir Murad in the chair.

Leaders and supporters of both the factions attended the meeting. BNP Magura district unit General Secretary Ali Ahmed Biswas, Kazi Shalimul Hoque Kamal and Ikbal Akhter Kafur were also present.

The leaders of both the factions in their speeches promised that the groups would be working together from now on in the ongoing movement for reinstating caretaker government system.

Amanullah Aman in his speech criticised the ruling party for contradicting itself on the caretaker issue.

“The prime minister embarked on movement for caretaker government system when she was in power in 1990. But why is she standing against the system now?” he asked.

Awami League was conspiring to destroy democracy, Aman alleged. “But BNP workers will resist the conspirators at any cost,” he added.
