At least six people, including a policeman, were injured in clashes between two rival factions of the ruling party student wing Chhatra League at Chittagong University on Saturday.
Five of the injured were students of the university.
The clashes occurred in two phases - once at 12pm and the next around 2pm.
Witnesses said the rival Chhatra League activists pounced on each other with sharp weapons and bamboo sticks.
Police later hurled at least 20 tear shells and fired at least 50 blank rounds to disperse the men locked in the clash.
The situation on campus had since been under control, police said.
One of the two factions were led by Alamgir Tipu, organising secretary of the CU unit Chhatra League, and the other by Abul Mansur Shikder, senior vice-president of the organisation.
The faction, led by Alamgir Tipu, has recently barred the organisation’s president from the entering the campus a few days ago.
Witnesses said the clash might be a result of that.
