BNP says distributed over 10C in aid for flood relief

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is scheduled to distribute relief among flood victims in Comilla on Saturday

Prof AZM Zahid Hossain, convener of the BNP’s relief collection committee in the southeastern region and a member of the party's standing committee, has said the BNP has received overwhelming support from its vast network of leaders, activists, and the general public, raising over Tk10 crore in relief materials, including Tk2.5 crore in cash, which has been distributed to flood-affected areas over the past five days.

Speaking at a press conference at the BNP central office in Naya Paltan on Friday, Zahid said in addition to the central relief efforts, BNP leaders and activists from various districts and affiliated organizations have been continuously delivering aid for the past 10 days.

The BNP leader said as floodwaters recede, the risk of diseases is rising in the affected areas. In response, BNP-affiliated doctors and pharmaceutical companies are distributing essential medicines, he added.

The Ziaur Rahman Foundation and the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) have also been purchasing and delivering medicines to those in need, Zahid mentioned.

He said the general public, including rickshaw pullers, students from schools and madrasas, and people from all walks of life, are contributing to the BNP's relief fund.

"Dry food, clothing for children and adults, candles, matches, and clean water are among the items being supplied to the flood-affected regions."

Zahid also said the BNP is committed to rehabilitating the flood victims and will continue its efforts to support them in rebuilding their lives.

Besides, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is scheduled to distribute relief among flood victims in Comilla on Saturday.
