Update : 07 Aug 2024, 09:36 PM

Sajib Wazed Joy, the son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, claimed that building the new Bangladesh is not possible without the Awami League.

“Our activists are being attacked. Many were killed. In this situation, the Awami League is the oldest democratic party in Bangladesh. Awami League is not dead. Awami League made the country independent, it is not possible to end Awami League.”

He said this in a video message on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday.

In a video message of 2 minutes and 36 seconds, Sajib Wazed Joy said that there is a chaotic situation in Bangladesh now. Vandalism and looting are happening all over the country.

He said: “I said my family will not do politics again. However, we cannot give up in this situation as our leaders and activists are being attacked.”

Joy said to the party leaders and activists to stand with courage.

“We are Bangabandhu's family and did not go anywhere. We are with you. We are ready to do whatever is necessary to protect the country and Awami League leaders and activists.”

He mentioned that the Awami League wants a democratic Bangladesh free from militancy.

“We are ready to discuss with everyone if they eliminate militancy and violence.”

Democracy and elections are not possible without Awami League, he added further.
