Khaleda Zia calls on nation to stay calm

Call for calm comes following Sheikh Hasina’s resignation as prime minister and her departure from Bangladesh

Update : 05 Aug 2024, 08:59 PM

BNP chief Khaleda Zia has called on people from all walks of life across Bangladesh to remain calm amid unrest, following Sheikh Hasina’s resignation as prime minister and her departure from the country.

This was communicated in a press release issued on Monday by Shamsuddin Didar, an official from the BNP chairperson's press wing.

Earlier in the day, five-time Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned from her post, after deadly clashes throughout the country.

She left the country at around 2:30pm accompanied by her younger sister, Sheikh Rehana, for a "safer place."

As the news broke, people stormed her official residence, Ganabhaban, and vandalized several key locations, including Bangabandhu Bhaban, also known as the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, at Dhanmondi 32.
