Update : 29 Aug 2013, 06:45 PM

Gonoforum president Dr Kamal Hossain on Thursday said the country was facing a political crisis over the issue of the poll-time government, under which the next general elections will be held.

Addressing a discussion at the Engineers Institute of Bangladesh auditorium, marking the 20th anniversary of the founding of the party, Dr Kamal called for a united movement to save democracy in the country.

He said, “We want peaceful handing over of power through an acceptable national election, and for the election to be held under a non-political government and independent election commission.”

“All progressive parties should unite for a movement to resolve the political crisis,” he added.

Chaired by Dr Kamal Hossain, the programme was also attended by Communist Party of Bangladesh General Secretary Syed Abu Zafar Ahmed, Mahmudur Rahman Manna, convener of Nagarik Oikkyo, Abdul Kader Siddiqui, president of Krisak Sramik Janata League, ASM Abdur Rab, president of a Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) faction, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal General Secretary Khalequzzaman, Workers’ Party General Secretary Anisur Rahman Mollick, and journalists Syed Abul Maksud and Abu Syed Khan.
