A show-cause notice has been issued against Rajbari District Awami League Organizational Secretary Mahmudul Asad Rasel for assaulting Rafiqul Islam, a journalist from the daily Jugantor, while he was performing his professional duties.

The directive was given by Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday.

Obaidul Quader spoke with journalists in his office before a joint meeting at the Awami League's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue.

When journalists brought the assault on Rafiqul Islam to his attention, he expressed regret.

He then instructed Awami League Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua to issue a show-cause notice to the accused Mahmudul Asad Rasel.

Additionally, Obaidul Quader ordered that Mahmudul Asad Rasel be barred from entering the party's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue and the party President Sheikh Hasina's political office in Dhanmondi.

Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League President Abu Ahmed Mannafi and journalists covering the Awami League beat were present at the time.

Notably on Monday, Rafiqul Islam was collecting news at the Awami League president's political office when Mahmudul Asad Rasel and his followers attacked him.
During the assault, two central leaders of the Awami League intervened, causing the attackers to retreat. The journalists present protested the attack.
