Quader trashes BNP's claim of inflation ruining Eid celebration

  • ‘No mercy for those who engage in corruption’
  • ‘Over 10.4 million sacrifices occurred during Eid’

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said people celebrated Eid-ul-Azha in a festive manner as more than 10 million animals were sacrificed this year, which is more than last year.

He said this proved that the BNP’s claim of Eid joy being dampened in Bangladesh amid a financial crisis is baseless.

He said this to journalists during an exchange of views at the Awami League President's office in Dhanmondi, Dhaka on Tuesday.

He criticized the BNP, saying: “BNP and its supporters have tried to turn the country into Sri Lanka. There is inflation, but Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is continuing efforts to reduce it."

Obaidul Quader also accused the BNP of not stopping its propaganda against the government even on Eid day, saying: "From the side of Awami League, no statements were made against them."

Challenging Mirza Fakhrul on the issue of Myanmar, Quader asked: "Where is Bangladesh's sovereignty being compromised? The intruders have left, and the ships have moved away.

"Sheikh Hasina has declared a zero-tolerance policy against corruption and has made the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) independent. No matter how influential, there is no mercy for those who engage in corruption."

On Monday, BNP senior leader Mirza Abbas said there is no joy in Eid among Bangladesh’s people as they celebrate it amid the financial crisis.
