The BNP has expelled 55 more of its grassroots leaders for participating in the third phase of the upcoming upazila elections by violating the party's decision.

The party expelled four on Thursday and 51 on Wednesday, according to a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed on Thursday.

The first phase of the sixth upazila parishad elections started on May 8.

The BNP is not participating in this election. However, some of its leaders and activists are contesting the elections disobeying the the party decision.

For this reason, the party is first ordering them to show cause and later expelling them as a punitive measure.

However, the expulsion of some people was lifted after they withdrew their candidacy.

In total, 204 people have been expelled so far for contesting the elections in different phases.
