Hasina to sit with grassroots to discuss party nomination

Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will sit with the party’s grassroots level leaders from September 4 to discuss probable candidates and overall preparations of the party in their areas for the upcoming parliamentary polls.

The series of meetings will be held at Hasina’s official residence Gana Bhaban, sources said after a meeting of the party’s parliamentary board last night with Hasina in the chair.

The meeting was convened to decide nomination for Barguna 2 by-polls. The Awami League will start selling nomination papers for the election at the party’s Dhanmondi office from today and continue until September 2.

The next meeting of the forum will interview the aspirants and finalise the nomination for Barguna 2.

The meeting was attended by party leaders Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Kazi Zafarullah, Obaidul Kader, Dr Alauddin Ahmed, Dipu Moni, advocate Abdul Mannan Khan and Mrinal Kanti Das.

The Barguna 2 constituency fell vacant following the death of lawmaker Golam Sabur Tulu in a road accident on July 26. The by-polls will be held on October 3.

The last date for submitting nomination papers is September 5. The papers will be scrutinised on September 7. Nominations can be withdrawn by September 15.
