Senior leaders of the BNP greeted the party chairperson, Khaleda Zia, at her Gulshan residence in Dhaka on Thursday evening on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

BNP's media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan said that the leaders went to Khaleda Zia’s residence, Firoza, around 8pm.

Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and senior leaders Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Selima Rahman, Abdullah Al Noman and Maj (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, among others, were in the delegation, Sayrul said.

Col (Retd) Oli Ahmad, the founding chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party, was also supposed to meet the BNP chief, Sayrul added.

Earlier in the day, senior BNP leaders, including Fakhrul and Abbas, offered prayers at the party founder General Ziaur Rahman’s grave at Chandrima Udyan of the capital.

Khaleda Zia last publicly exchanged Eid greetings at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital on June 26, 2017.

Since she was sent to jail on February 8, 2018, the severity of her physical condition has fluctuated. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she went to the hospital several times after being released on condition by the government's executive order on March 25, 2020. She was freed on the condition that she would stay at her Gulshan house and not leave the country.

Since then, her release term has been extended every six months following the family's plea.

On March 27, the government, for the eighth time, extended the suspension of her jail term by another six months.
