The ninth anniversary of death of Ivy Rahman, the then women’s affairs secretary of the Awami League and wife of late president Zillur Rahman, will be observed on Sturday.
On this day in 2004, Ivy Rahman succumbed to her injuries she had suffered in the August 21 grenade attack on an Awami League rally on Bangabandhu Avenue.
Twenty-three other leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies and supporters were killed and 500 others sustained splinter injuries in the attack.
The Awami League and its associate bodies and other social, cultural and professional organisations have planned different programmes to observe the day.
The ruling Awami League will place wreaths at Ivy’s grave at Banani graveyard at 10:30am, offer special prayers and hold a doa mahfil seeking eternal peace of her departed soul.
A milad and doa mahfil will be organised at Ivy’s residence at Gulshan 2 after Asr prayers.
