Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman freed from Kasimpur jail

Was in jail since November 2022

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has been freed after serving around 15 months in jail.

He was released from Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur at 2:45pm on Monday.

Shafiqur Rahman was imprisoned in Kashimpur Central Jail-1.

Prison Jail Superintendent Shahjahan Ahmed said Jamaat Ameer was arrested in several cases including sabotage and anti-terrorism act.

His bail papers in the latest case were received by the jail authorities on Sunday. He was released from jail on Monday after verification and formalities.

Meanwhile, the party’s secretary general Mia Golam Parwar along with activists and lawyers welcomed Shafiqur Rahman with flowers after he was released on bail after 15 months.

On December 13, 2022, he was arrested from his residence in the Bashundhara area of Dhaka.

Shafiqur's son Rafat Sadiq Saifullah was arrested by the police from Sylhet on November 9 of that year on charges of militant affiliation.

Jamaat Ameer was also arrested in Jatrabari Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

After that, Shafiqur Rahman was shown arrested in several other cases.
