Islami Chhatra Shibir activists reportedly severed the tendons of Rajshahi University (RU) unit Chhatra League General Secretary SM Touhid Al Hossain Tuhin on Thursday night, reports banglanews24.com.
RU BCL sources said Tuhin came under Shibir attack near Amir Ali Hall around 10pm while he was going to Madar Bakhsh Hall after a rally marking the National Mourning Day.
Rajshahi district BCL General Secretary Omar Faruk Fardin said: “A group of Shibir cadres came riding motorbikes out of nowhere and swooped on Tuhin with sharp weapons. They stabbed him and at one stage they cut the tendons of his left hand and right leg.”
Tuhin was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) immediately after the incident.
Later, he was sent to Dhaka for better treatment, said RMCH sources.
RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Mizanuddin, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Sarwar Jahan Sajal and other university officials visited Tuhin at RMCH at around 11pm. In an immediate reaction, Mizanuddin urged law enforcers to hold those responsible without delay.
However, no report of lodging any case in this connection was known till the filing of this report at about 12am.
Motihar police station Officer-in-Charge Abdus Sobhan said: “Police are yet to identify any miscreant. But, additional police have been deployed on campus after the attack on Tuhin.”
Dhaka University unit BCL staged a demonstration and brought out a protest procession in the campus Thursday night.
