US ambassador Dan Mozena has said cheap politicians and greedy land grabbers create friction and manipulate the society in the guise of religion to their own benefit.
“These cheap politicians and greedy land grabbers are a threat to the nation,” he said at inter-faith dialogue on religious tolerance and peace in the city Thursday.
Citing an example, he said the greedy owner of Rana Plaza had grabbed the land from a Hindu family and built a complex which is now known around the world as symbol of greed, corruption and land grabbing from minorities.
He also recalled the destruction of Buddhist temples and attacks on Hindus in Noakhali, Comilla, Barisal and other parts of the country.
Mozena called upon the government, civil society and the people of Bangladesh to reject the cheap politicians and greedy land grabbers.
“Reject the cheap politicians and land grabbers who seek to use religion to advance their self-serving agendas to acquire power and wealth,” Mozena said.
