Chairman of Jatiya Party (JaPa) and newly elected MP from Rangpur Sadar-3 seat GM Quader said that 11 MPs have been elected as a single party so his party will play a role as opposition party in the national parliament as per law.
The decision of the meeting of the parliamentary party of JaPa was sent to the speaker in the form of a resolution on Saturday morning, said Quader.
“I hope that Jatiya Party will be declared as an opposition party according to the law before the starting of the parliamentary session,” said JaPa chairman while interacting with journalists at his Skyview House in the Rangpur city on Saturday.
He came to Rangpur from Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.
The Jatiya Party has all the capabilities to play the role of the opposition party in the national parliament without considering the numbers, said the JaPa chairman.
“In the meantime, we held a meeting of the parliamentary party of the party, and I was declared the leader of the opposition party, Anisul Islam Mahmud was declared as deputy leader while Mujibul Haque Chunnu chief whip of the opposition party. I hope that the speaker will approve our opposition party's duties before the session or at the beginning of the session,” said Quader.
In response to a question from the journalists, he said that there was no discussion with anyone in this regard.
“We hope that even though we are less in number in the parliament, we will be given the opportunity to fulfill our responsibilities,” said Quader.
Dismissing the apprehension of a division in the Jatiya Party, GM Quader said that those who misunderstood after the election have understood their mistake, so there is no crisis or apprehension in the party.
He claimed that since 1990, there has been a conspiracy to divide the party by grouping against the party. But this time JaPa will stand straight again and become the popular political party of the country.
