Awami Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash on Saturday said that BNP boycotted the 12th national parliamentary election as people do not trust them.
"BNP is a criminal party and people do not trust them. They hate them. From that guilty feeling, BNP men knew that people would never come to vote for them. That's why, BNP boycotted the polls," he said.
He said these while chairing the opening ceremony of the distribution of winter clothes among needy people across the country under the initiative of Awami Jubo League on Banani Model School premises.
Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Aminul Islam Amin attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
Parash said that the Awami League promised to bring the price of the essentials under the grip of people's purchasing power and that is why this pledge came first in its election manifesto considering the issue as a challenge for the present government.
“In Awami League's mindset, the common people always get priority,” he said, adding that history says that the country witnessed massive development whenever Awami League assumed power.
Speaking on the occasion, Aminul Islam Amin said: "We don't believe in words, we believe in actions. That is why the leaders and workers of Jubo League, Chhatra League and Krishak League stood by the common people during the coronavirus pandemic. They helped the people of this country by risking their lives."
He said: “Those who became champions again and again in corruption do not stand by people in their plight-period.”
“One day, they will be lost forever from the politics of Bangladesh,” Amin added.
