Main opposition party BNP on Monday declared fresh programmes demanding that the national election take place under non-partial interim government.
BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir disclosed the programmes in a press briefing held at the party’s Nayapaltan office around 12pm.
Mirza Fakhrul said: “Party chairperson Khaleda Zia will hold rallies on September 8 in Narshindi, September 15 in Rajshahi, September 16 in Rangpur, September 22 in Khulna, September 28 in Barisal and October 5 in Sylhet, in favour of the party’s demand of holding the national election under non-partial interim government.”
In addition, Khaleda will also hold meetings in Chittagong and Dhaka after Eid-ul-Azha.
Furthermore, the party will launch mass campaigns that will continue till August 31.
Party senior leaders are to visit the 75 organisational districts to garner public opinion in several.Some 56 teams, comprising standing committee members, advisors, vice-chairmen, joint secretary general and organising secretarywill be vising the organisational districts.
Earlier on Sunday, BNP chairperson sat in a meeting with its party leaders to decide on the ultimatum and programmesfor September to press its demand that a non-partisan interim government to oversee the next general election.
On May 4 this year, BNP gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the government to realise the same demand. On March 12 last year, the party had given an ultimatum of 90 days that expired on June 10.
