The leaders and activists of the opposition BNP on Sunday formed a human chain in Dhaka marking International Human Rights Day.
The human chain was formed in front of the National Press Club, where top BNP leaders and family members of the victims of enforced disappearances and political killings took part.
BNP's program held by closing one side of the road near the National Press Club.
The program ended at 12:30pm.
Leaders and activists of various other organizations gathered on the road adjacent to the press club.
BNP men gathered with small marches and chanted slogans demanding the resignation of the government.
The program began formally with the recitation from the holy Quran around 10:55am with BNP standing committee member Selima Rahman in the chair.
Several others central leaders including Afroz Abbas and Syeda Asifa Ashrafi Papia participated in the human chain program.
Several hundred BNP leaders and activists gathered in the area since morning to attend the program amid the heavy presence of law enforcers.
The party also organized human chains all over the country.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Monday announced to form human chains across the country, including in the capital together with the family members of victims of enforced disappearance and political killings, marking International Human Rights Day.
Besides, all district units of the opposition party observed a similar program on the same day to highlight the issue of human rights violations in Bangladesh, said the party.
Speaking at a press briefing on Saturday, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said they want to observe the programme successfully as a symbol of protest against injustice.
