Barrister M Shahjahan Omar, the Awami League-nominated candidate for the Jhalakathi-1 (Kanthalia-Rajapur) constituency, made an attempt to meet the chief justice but was unable to do so, as confirmed by the chief justice's office on Wednesday.
Omar arrived at the Supreme Court around 11am with the intention of meeting the chief justice but was unsuccessful, even after waiting for a considerable period.
In response to this, Barrister M Shahjahan Omar, the recently expelled former vice-chairman from BNP, said: "I came to the office of the Supreme Court registrar for a reason."
When questioned further, he clarified: "Awami League is my old party. I have returned to my address."
On Tuesday, Shahjahan Omar met CEC Kazi Habibul Awal at 2:30pm. However, during this meeting, he was accused of misbehaving with journalists.
BNP's former vice-chairman Barrister M Shahjahan Omar has been nominated by Awami League to contest the Jhalakathi-1 (Kantalia-Rajapur) seat and has faced allegations of violating the electoral code of conduct.
On the evening of December 4, Senior Assistant Judge Pallobesh Kumar Kundu, the in-charge judge of the inquiry committee formed by the Election Commission in the Jhalakathi-1 constituency, issued a show-cause notice to him.
