Information Minister Hasan Mahmud has said, referring to the BNP, that a political party has called a blockade and is hiring criminals to carry out ambushes with petrol bombs and set fire to vehicles.
Hasan, also joint general secretary of the ruling Awami League, was speaking as the chief guest at a human chain organized by Ognishontrasher Artonad on the Central Shaheed Minar premises in Dhaka on Sunday.
“They set fire to 580 vehicles in the last one month. Many drivers and their assistants were burnt alive. All these are being done on the instructions of Tarique Rahman and other BNP leaders,” the minister said.
Expressing solidarity with the families of those injured and killed in the arson attacks, Hasan said: "Nowhere in the world has there been incidents of burning people for politics in the last two decades, which is being done by the BNP and Jamaat in Bangladesh. In line with the demands of the victims of these attacks, BNP-Jamaat leaders should also be brought to justice."
