A total of 71 Awami League MPs, including three state ministers and 68 members of parliament, of the 11th parliament have been dropped from the nomination list of the ruling Awami League to contest the upcoming 12th national parliamentary polls.

The three state ministers not picked are KM Khalid, Monnujan Sufian, and Zakir Hossain.
However, an Awami League leader and running MP did not express their interest to get a party nomination this time because of their old age. One is HN Ashequr Rahman of Rangpur-5 and another is Engineer Mosharraf Hossain of Chittagong-1.
Son of these two veterans, Awami League leaders Rasheq Rahman and Mahboob Rahman consecutively have been chosen instead of them in their constituency by Awami League.
On Sunday, the ruling party Awami League finalized the party candidate for the 12th national parliamentary election.
General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced the names of the candidates at a press conference at the party office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.
