A half-day hatal called by Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student body of Jamaat-e-Islami, protesting the killing of one of its leaders in Dhaka was obsered peacefully in the district Sunday.
Vehicular movement was thin on the district town roads. The shutters of all roadside shops remained down during the hartal hours, reports UNB.
The educational institutions of the district town also remained closed.
Khalilur, 22, resident of Mollikpara village of the upazila, was reportedly shot dead in a clash with police in the capital’s Jatrabari area during Jamaat’s hartals on August 14.
Mizanur Rahman, publicity secretary of Shibir, announced the shutdown at Kormoja Eidgah Maidan in Santhia upazila around 10am on Thursday before Khalilur’s namaj-e-janaza.
