Following the inauguration of the first unit of the coal-fired Matarbari Power Plant in Maheshkhali upazila on Saturday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will join a mass rally there.
Maheshkhali Upazila Awami League has organized the rally where the prime minister will address as chief guest.
Leaders and activists have been thronging to the township ground with processions since Saturday morning, centering the rally.
Leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliated organizations are coming to Matarbari from different upazilas of Cox's Bazar. Some are coming towards the gathering place in private cars or some riding on pickups.
Ahead of the 12th National parliamentary election, the candidates are coming to the rally wearing different coloured t-shirts and caps to highlight their presence.
Besides Matarbari, Cox's Bazar district town, Ramu, Chakaria areas have been decorated with pylons, banners, billboards, and festoons.
These banners, festoons, and billboards have portrayed the various development activities in Cox's Bazar during the tenure of the current government.
Earlier on the day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the much-awaited 102-kilometre Chittagong-Cox's Bazar dual-gauge single railway line, setting yet another milestone in the country's communication network.
