  • Protest marches held in Mohakhali, Banani
  • No BNP leaders seen at central office
Update : 31 Oct 2023, 12:44 PM

The leaders and activists of the opposition BNP and its affiliated organizations have taken out several protest marches in Dhaka, on the first day of their three-day blockade program.

In the morning, the leaders and activists took out protest marches in the capital’s Mohakhali, Banani, and Dhaka-Narayanganj link road.

Many BNP leaders including Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi were present in the Nayaranganj protest march.

Rizvi said: “We are carrying out the programs facing all sorts of obstacles. We have instructed our leaders and activists to make the blockade successful by taking a strict stand from one district to another as well as upazilas. All types of roads will be blocked.”

In carrying out programs like blockade and hartal, the party has emphasized keeping the districts outside Dhaka separate.

A grassroots leader of the party said that they had not been informed anything regarding that matter from the party.

He said BNP’s plan says that the blockade will be on railways, waterways, and highways.

Meanwhile, strict police security measures are in place at the BNP central office in Dhaka’s Naya Paltan. Additional police forces have been deployed at both Fakirapool Junction and Nightingale Junction.

However, no BNP leaders have been seen either inside or outside the central office since Tuesday morning.

Earlier, the CID had cordoned off the area in front of the BNP central office with crime scene tape, which was taken down at 7am on Tuesday.

Despite this, the BNP's Nayapaltan central office remains firmly locked.

Traffic on the road from Fakirapool to Nightingale Junction is running smoothly. However, there is a noticeable reduction in the number of people on the streets.
