BNP blockade: Awami League vows to guard public safety

  • Took position in front of central office
  • Lesser public transport on Dhaka roads
Update : 31 Oct 2023, 11:35 AM

Awami League leaders and activists have taken a position in front of the party’s central office on Bangabandhu Avenue on Tuesday.

Dhaka Metropolitan South unit Awami League President Abu Ahmed Mannafi, Vice President Mohiuddin Ahmed Mohi, and Office Secretary Riaz Uddin Ahmed among others were present there since morning.

When asked, they said they had taken a position to protect people and vehicles from the BNP and Jamaat blockade.

Dhaka's roads experienced a noticeable reduction in transportation services on Sunday, the first day of a nationwide three-day blockade announced by the BNP and Jamaat, forcing school- and office-goers to travel on jam-packed buses and others to fork out extra cash to hail motorcycles or CNG-run autorickshaws.

There were also only a small number of long-distance buses at Gabtoli, Kallyanpur, and Fulbaria stands, leading to inconvenience for passengers. Sources within the sector indicated that services would be provided based on the evolving situation.
