BFUJ, DUJ give BNP-Jamaat 72 hours to apologize to assaulted journalists

  • They threaten to boycott BNP-Jamaat news

The Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) issued a 72-hour ultimatum that said they would boycott all news related to BNP-Jamaat if they no not apologive to journalists who were attacked during Saturday’s rally.

BFUJ and DUJ organized a protest rally in front of the National Press Club on Sunday.

The leaders of the organizations said they would also withhold the publication of any positive news about BNP Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman. 

They demanded the identification and prosecution of those responsible for the attack on journalists during the clashes between BNP, Awami League, and Jamaat on Saturday, asserting that the attack was motivated. 

They asked why journalists are always targeted and attacked during clashes, and why the administration never takes any action regarding the matter.

Notable figures in attendance included Shyamal Dutta, general secretary of the National Press Club, Omar Faruk, president of BFUJ, Deep Azad, secretary general of BFUJ, Sohel Haider Chowdhury, president of DUJ, Akhter Hossain, general secretary of DUJ, Shakil Ahmed, member secretary of the Bangladesh Broadcast Journalists Association (BJC), Nurul Islam Hasib, former general secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity, and Jannatul Ferdous, former office secretary of DUJ.
