Update : 29 Oct 2023, 04:04 PM

Regarding the case filed over the death of a police constable, who died during a clash with BNP on Saturday, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said this is only the start, more cases will be filed.

“Those who have been harmed will all file cases. I can't say how many people have been arrested. I'll let you know later,” he said while talking to reporters at the Secretariat on Sunday. (October 29).

Referring to the violence reported during the BNP rally on Saturday, the home minister said: "BNP had ordered one million people to come to Dhaka for the rally. The police had forbidden it, and they (BNP leaders) did not listen to them. They told the police commissioner that it would not lead to violence. But it is very sad that their people have attacked innocent people and attacked the police,” he added.

Stating that the BNP has created a threatening situation in Dhaka by setting fire to Rajarbagh police hospital, the home minister said: "These barbaric attacks of BNP activists have reminded us of Gaza. These attacks are reminiscent of 2014. More than 10 buses were set on fire. They also set fire to a fire service vehicle… which sets the worst example.”

Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the people of Bangladesh have been affected by Saturday’s incident and a police officer died. “Now they are again calling hartal. We are supposed to protest, but now they are protesting in reverse.”

A case has been filed with Paltan Model police station over the death of police constable Aminul Parvez in a clash over Saturday's BNP rally in Dhaka’s Naya Paltan.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Paltan Model police station Salauddin Mia said the police filed the case on Sunday morning.

Dhaka city experienced about five hours of clashes primarily revolving around the Awami League and BNP rallies.
