BNP-police clash: 8 injured in Narayanganj

  • Eight individuals injured
  • Police fired multiple rounds from shotgun

At least eight people were injured in a clash between police and BNP leaders and activists in Narayanganj on Sunday.

Of them, three were shot. They were identified as Wadud Sagar, Sujan and Sohel.

The identities of the other injured activists were not immediately known.

Narayanganj Metropolitan BNP's Member Secretary Abu Al Yusuf Khan Tipu said: "We were rigorously adhering to the nationwide strike declared by the central leadership. However, at this time, the police initiated an attack on our leaders and activists and resorted to firing. Eight of our leaders and activists sustained injuries, with a number of them being shot."

Narayanganj Metropolitan Jubo Dal Member Secretary Shahed Ahmed said: "Our leaders and activists had assembled near Narayanganj Press Club with a procession, but the police fired upon them. In the incident, three Jubo Dal activists, namely Wadud Sagar, Sujan, and Sohel, sustained injuries."

Narayanganj Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anisur Rahman Molla said: "Around 150 BNP supporters had gathered here with the intention of picketing and causing harm to people and property. When they realized the police were present, they began throwing bricks at the officers. In response, we dispersed them, and fired multiple rounds from shotgun."
